Cooking Adventure: Crêpes

The first time I ever made crêpes they turned out as pancakes
That was the Summer of 2010 shortly after returning from France

Now it's Fall of 2012
I'm donating crêpes for UNCC's Annual International Festival (IFEST)
The pressure was on...

I was so afraid that these crêpes were going to flop
But I was greatly surprised

The batter turned out great & gave me
nice
thin
occasionally crispy edged
crêpes

Now all I need to do is practice
Especially shaping them...
a few turned out less circular than desired

Nonetheless I am very content.
Used this simple recipe

Plunging into Fall

 I wanted to title this:
Falling for Fall
but that's what everyone says...
so I decided to plunge in :)

My awkward setup...

Engagement Photos au Parc

This day was definitely a day to remember...
for many reasons!
To avoid reliving my frustration with technology & self stupidity,
I've chosen to share this single memory:

Taking photos at the park in town
This one turned out a bit blurry,
but Roxy & Ruby are posing princesses!

Guess Roxy got a little restless and needed to switch positions
When suddenly:

Good thing Aunt Britter's can run fast...
caught her attempting to intimidate a large dog

Cooking Adventure: Nutella Hot Chocolate

Recently I've become obsessed with missglamorazzi (and her love life) on Youtube.
She has a video on how to make Nutella Hot Chocolate & I decided to try it!

Pour 1/4 of the milk into a pan on low/medium heat
Add two spoonfuls of Nutella
Whisk until fully mixed
Add the rest of the milk
Stir until it has reached desired temperature
& is frothy

Psst... for the adults, add 1/2-1 shot of Coconut Rum

Enjoy!

{lol JB cupcake ring}

Turned out delicious & my friends loved it.
Can't wait til the weather gets colder!!

QFI: Day Ten- Embarrassing Moment

10. Describe your most embarrassing moment

We've all had those times.
Multiple times a day for some.
When something happens
and you get that feeling

Everyone reacts differently to embarrassment. I personally turn beet red, get super hot, and sometimes even can hear my heart beating in my ears, and SURELY feel it trying to jump out of my chest.

I can think of many stories...

The time I asked one of my Aunts if she was pregnant... when she wasn't
HEY, I was a kid :/

The time I did a total wipeout boogie-boarding in the ocean & came up with sand all in my mouth & bikini... making it look as if I had numer-twoed... enough said

Or most recently the time I went to the wrong class, sat down & pulled out my calculator...
only to overhear something about an 80 question grammar test
Everyone needs a calculator for grammar, right?

...but there's no contest for first place here

It was a Girl Scout Cookie Trip in May of 2009 at Busch Gardens. We had just stopped our roller coaster riding madness for a lunch break. There was a Luau themed lunch/dance in a private section. It was a cookout and I decided to eat a hotdog... with every topping imaginable.

I layered ketchup, chili, cheese, and relish on top of that juicy dog and went to sit at a picnic table with the rest of my troop. There were many younger girls dancing on the 'dance floor' but none of us were really interested in 'childish' things like that.
It's funny remembering how cool you once thought you were :D

The YMCA began to play and I thought to be a little goofy. With hotdog in hand I flung both arms up yelling 'YYYYYY' and never continued with the other letters. Instead my jaw dropped and I brought my hands back down. In my hand lied a hotdog bun.

Just a bun.

The hotdog had flown out of the bun, bringing all of its condiments along, and unfortunately landed on a woman's back at the table behind me. I was horrified and everyone was laughing. The woman's floral button up shirt had ketchup and chili running down the back. And it was my fault.

My mother and I rushed to her with napkins apologizing like crazy and promising that it was only an accident. I laughed until I cried... but also cried for the sake of crying because I was so embarrassed and the happenings were just TOO perfect. Luckily she got a good laugh out of it and was not mad at all.

There is a photo of me, somewhere lost on Facebook, holding up my bun with a dirt covered hotdog inside, and tears streaming down my face. If I find it someday I will surely post it here.
Until then, this post-incident & calmed down photo will have to suffice:

The woman in red standing right behind me is the hotdog victim!

Cooking Adventure: BCT

Okay, today for lunch I decided to go for the bacon.
The first two pieces were burnt pretty bad :(
But the last two pieces were crispy & delicious!

The thing about Hunt Village is that the fire alarms are really sensitive.
So you better believe I had the door WIDE open & the fan on HIGH.

Cooking Adventure: Grilled Cheese

Since Gimpus has been on crutches for about a week now, I've really been trying to help out a lot more.
Last night I attempted dinner...
GRILLED CHEESE
You can't mess that up, right?
Eh.

The very first sandwich turned out pretty good... but as the pan got warmer I forgot to turn it down.
So that next piece was really gross& tasted like burnt marshmallows, not exactly the thing I'd like to be dipping in tomato soup.
The two after that [which I gave to Caroline] worked out well too.
For my final sandwich, I flipped the bread & cheese all over the pan.
It was a mangled mess.

At least everyone else's  tasted fine.
I must master one of the easiest college meals ever.
I'll let you know how I do NEXT TIME.

In Other News...

We decided to stop for lunch @ Prospector & got trapped inside because it was raining so hard.

Turns out, crutches are VERY difficult on wet ground & it's hard to share an umbrella with cripples ;)

Return of Gimpus

To keep this brief:

Lettus [who for now will be called Gimpus] rolled her ankle during ROTC.
The sprain is so bad that her entire foot is bruised like crazy.
She hobbles around... it's sad... but kinda funny.
Anyway, we all hope she gets well soon.
I may occasionally have a funny story or two to tell about her adventures on crutches!

Biggest thing about the crutches & pain medicine...
SHE'S TIRED
ALL THE TIME

my many journals, and my oneword account

Photography
While I haven't always had access to high quality equipment,
I've always had a strong interest in it,

QFI: Day Seven- Dream Job

07. What is your dream job and why?

I have a very specific dream job.

Teaching Mathematics to elementary aged children in a French immersion school in America.

It completely combines my two passions of Math & French.
&
The idea of me as a teacher pleases me, especially this unique teaching method.

Someday I may go more into depth on the subject of the benefits of language immersion...

It's been one [nonconsecutive] week already of my QFI!

QFI: Day Six- Hardest Experience

06. What is the hardest thing you have ever experienced?

Around age three my parents divorced, and a few years later both of my grandparents passed away. I remember crying at their funeral because I was angry at myself for not really feeling the same emotion that all of the others were feeling. How could I be mournful & sad at that age though? While I had a connection with my grandparents, it wasn't lengthy or deep enough to hurt me at the time. It upsets me now because I never really got to know them.

While these events were 'important' in my life...
No experience was more difficult and life changing than losing Gary.

This post is going to be very long. Keep scrolling to read other posts of mine if you don't wish to hear the explanation of my hardest experience.

If you do, then...
